About Me

My name is Brigitta Nicole Campbell and I go by Nicki. I have been teaching for five years and this year is going on my sixth year teaching. I am a life long learner and am always trying to improve my skills and strategies as a teacher. I feel that relationships have an important role in a student's learning. I will try to always have a positive relationship with each and everyone of my students.
I grew up overseas in Germany being part of a military family, which has molded me into the person I am today. I use my travel and cultural experiences with my students to connect real life experiences with learning situations. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from University of North Alabama. I have my Masters' Degree from University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction.
I met my husband my last year in college and we got married in 2011. He is in the Navy and just recently left to begin that career. He was currently and EMT here in Decatur. I look forward to seeing him again. I have a sister that lives in Seattle, WA and my mom still lives in Germany. I hope to visit Germany again soon. My mom is 5th grade teacher in Vogelweh Elementary School teaching children of the military.

Newsletter Aug. 26-30

Mrs. Campbell’s Newsletter

August 26th-August 30th, 2013
Dear Parents,
This is the start of a very successful week as we will begin practicing many skills we learned this week. New skills will be introduced this week and students will be tested on these skills on Friday. The DOL, Math 4 Today, Spelling, and Reading Comprehension test will be Friday. Vocabulary and Spelling words are on the home connection sheet sent home with your child today. If the last page of the home connection sheet is completed correctly and you sign the front, then your child will receive 5 bonus points on the reading comprehension test on Friday.
The Reading comprehension test is not something your child can study for. It is an assessment based on skills they have learned this week. A story will be given to your child and he or she will read it carefully and answer questions at the end of the story. This is called a cold read.     I
I apologize for not getting the book talk calendar out last week but I will try and get it to you this week. We will not begin the book talk until September.

Getting to Know You Activities

Dear Parents,
I am excited to have your child in my class this year. We have started off to what I expect to be a great year. This week we will begin reading (Wonders), D.O.L., and Math 4 Today. We will complete the tests together on Friday so the students will understand what is expected on the tests. Students will be bringing home their Bellwork (D.O.L and Math 4 Today) folder home every night to study. Please make sure your child brings back their Bellwork folder to school every day.
Every nine weeks, we will be doing a book talk. I will send a sign-up calendar home this week. Fill in at least two dates that your child would like to do his/her book talk.  The rubric will always be in your child’s Hero book that comes home every day. The Hero book was put it together today at school so take some time to look through it so you know what is in the Hero book.

I will have this newsletter on my blog if you lose is it or misplace it. I will do this every week. The newsletter will give you an idea of what your child will be missing when he/she is absent. I will also post pictures of students during learning activities and field trips.

Thank you

Beginning of the Year

Hey Parents,
It is the beginning of a new year and I am so excited to be working with your wonderful children. We will be getting into the curriculum from day one. So keep in mind there may be some homework coming home. I want this year to be successful and for students to reach their goals that will get them that much closer to the dreams they have for themselves. During this year I want to get to know you and for you to get to know me. Call or email me for concerns or questions you may have.
Thank you
Mrs. Campbell
